On March 8, 2025, a wave of celebration, reflection, and resolve marked International Women’s Day at Carmel Pre-Primary Hall and across digital platforms. Organized by Seva Kendra in collaboration with the Conference of Religious Women India (CRWI), the day served as a vibrant reminder of the ongoing struggle for gender justice and the unwavering spirit of women committed to transforming society.
On-Ground Celebrations: A Rallying Cry for Empowerment
The day began with an energetic rally around the Carmel campus, led by local women, community leaders, and organizers. The rally, flagged off by Sr. Vimala Paul AC, Counsellor of Social Apostolate and Principal of Seva Kendra, focused on the theme “Accelerate Action”—a call to move from words to tangible change in women’s empowerment.
Inspiring Words and Powerful Voices
The morning session featured impactful speeches by Sr. Subha, Mrs. Rosy, and Mrs. Soumaya, who addressed critical themes of education, empowerment, and social justice for women. A panel discussion further deepened the dialogue, exploring the urgency of taking proactive steps to ensure equality and dignity for all women.
Oath for Change
In a moving moment of unity, all participants took an oath to stand against gender-based violence and discrimination, pledging to be advocates of equality in their families, communities, and institutions.
Honouring Trailblazers
The celebration also recognized women who have made a significant impact through their leadership and social contributions. Sr. Nirmalini AC, Sr. Jenitta, Smt. Susheela Gubbanala, and Smt. Swetha were felicitated for their outstanding work in women’s empowerment and community development.
In deep recognition of their unwavering commitment, compassionate service, and transformative leadership in the upliftment of women and youth, six sisters from the Sisters Led Youth Initiative (SLYI) Project—Sr. Jenita AC, Sr. Roshini PHJC, Sr. Regina SMMI, Sr. Praveena FMA, Sr. Biji Matthew MSMHC, and Sr. Maria SJT—were honoured for their remarkable contributions. With hearts dedicated to the Gospel and missions rooted in justice, dignity, and empowerment, they have tirelessly worked to uplift marginalized communities, equipping young people and women with education, skills training, and opportunities for self-reliance, thereby becoming beacons of hope and agents of positive change in society.
Culture and Community
Adding joy and color to the occasion, students from the local community college presented a cultural program that celebrated the strength and creativity of women. The event concluded with a shared meal, symbolizing the unity and collaboration that defined the day.
Missio Visit: Listening to Voices on the Ground
As part of the day’s activities, Mr. Till Fähnders, a representative of Missio, met with members of the Grievance Redressal Cell (GRC) and participants of CRWI’s leadership training program. Through personal interviews, he gained insights into their experiences, challenges, and hopes for the future, reinforcing the global solidarity in the mission of women’s empowerment
